Dr. Alvaro Garreta, MD.
Surgical Oncologist
Dr. Alvaro Garreta Madrigal is a specialist in Surgical Oncology with an emphasis on the digestive system, although he also has extensive experience in other areas of oncology such as breast, head and neck, and skin cancers.
He obtained his specialization in Surgical Oncology with honors in 2003 from the University of Costa Rica and later pursued postgraduate studies at the Oscar Lambret Hospital in Lille, France, and at the Josep Trueta Hospital in Girona, Spain, between 2006 and 2008.
Upon returning to Costa Rica, he joined the surgical oncology service at the San Juan de Dios Hospital, where he assumed the clinical leadership for several years.
Dr. Garreta is a postgraduate professor at the University of Costa Rica, and academia is one of his priorities. He has participated in numerous congresses and update symposiums and is a member of the Surgical Oncology Association of Costa Rica and an active international member of the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO).
