Dr. Efraín Cambronero, MD

Surgical Oncologist


Dr. Efrain Cambronero Moraga is a surgical oncologist with over 30 years of experience in the field of cancer and a founding member of the "Centro Integral de Oncología" (CIO) established at the Momentum Medical Center in Escazú.

He graduated from the University of Costa Rica in 1984, obtained his specialization in oncological surgery in 1990, and later pursued postgraduate studies or fellowships after passing the ECFMG. One fellowship was completed at the University of Chicago (1994-1995), and The Meyer Mars International Fellowship from the American Cancer Society focused on breast cancer, digestive system, and skin. The second fellowship was in head and neck surgical oncology at the University of Miami (1995 to 1997), where he received the Chandler Society Resident & Fellow Scientific Forum award.

Dr. Cambronero's areas of greatest interest and expertise include head and neck cancer with an emphasis on thyroid cancer, breast cancer, digestive system cancer, and skin cancer, including melanoma.

He is an active member of the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) and the AHPBA (American Hepatopancreatobiliary Association), and the IHPBA (International Hepatopancreaobiliary Association), where he has served as a member of the international relations committee. Dr. Cambronero is also an active member of the American Head and Neck Society (AHNS) and the American College of Surgeons (FACS).
